This was quite possibly the most anticipated movie of my lifetime. The hype was massive. It broke box office records, but did Endgame live up to the hype? The answer is yes and no. When the bar is as high as it was for this movie, based on the quality of movies in the rest of the series and the aforementioned hype, it’s almost impossible to meet expectations. Endgame was certainly a very good movie. It had twists and turns that I didn’t see coming (including some that I did). It had great action sequences. It had memorable characters, but it wasn’t quite as good as I thought it would be. Out of the four Avengers movies, I preferred Infinity Wars and the first movie in the series over this one.
I will try to write this without spoilers. The opening sequence involving Thanos came as a complete surprise. It turned the movie into something much different than I thought it would be. I enjoyed many of the character interactions, but I found the whole fat Thor to be pretty disappointing and not especially realistic given the character’s history. It seemed as if his character was there to be played for laughs, and that was unnecessary. The time travel aspect of this movie was my favorite part of it. I enjoyed the different characters interacting with the past. The final battle also delivered. I guess what really held back my enjoyment was that I basically knew it was going to end with characters who were killed off coming back. After all, they have been advertising the new Spiderman movie for a while, and that wouldn’t be possible if Spiderman doesn’t come back. I don’t blame Disney for promoting their movie, but it definitely takes away a lot of suspense.
